This has to be one of my favorite insects around here. I saw a baby one near the patio door when I walked out yesterday morning. When I reached down to touch it, the insect became fully erect, rigid and upright, as if to mimic a stick. Pretty amusing.

This much larger specimen I spotted on the chimney late this afternoon. It was about 4 inches (10 cm) long.
